Hello, My name is Mary and I’m the Florist, Lead Designer, and Owner of The Pink Poppy. I grew up in Florida, where I first started working as a florist 20 years ago. Today I live right here in Northern Virginia with my two daughters, on a beautiful little farm we call “The Marigold Farmette.” On our farm we have over 45 birds, all living in comfort as members of our extended family. These Hens, Roosters, and Geese all have names, and are all loved dearly. I have two mischievous Cats and one friendly Dog, so you may have noticed that I love animals.

I live for flip flops and fruity cocktails.  I enjoy fitness and napping in my hammock. I'm both a beekeeper and a tamer of roosters.  I’ve taken a polar bear plunge and watched the ball drop in Times Square to ring in a new year. My life has been filled with adventures and time spent with friends and family.  I can't wait to meet you, and be a part of one of the most extraordinary moments in your life.

As a mom I have a deep concern for the sustainability of our environment, which is why I use local flowers and greenery when possible. I don’t use aerosols or flowers that have been dyed or exposed to unnatural chemicals. I believe that mother nature has provided us with an amazing wealth of beauty and splendor to create with. From responsibly sourced flowers, to the moss and feathers that I have foraged, my designs come from nature and showcase the beauty that makes our planet so precious.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Flowers have the ability to brighten a room and bring smiles to faces. Have you ever wondered what happens to the flowers after an event is over? I'll let you know exactly what will happen with your flowers. For a very small fee I will arrange to donate the leftover flowers from your event to area hospitals and elderly care facilities. You can start your married life together knowing that you were truly able to share some of the beauty and joy of your special day with the community.

Share a Little Sunshine with the World

You might be wondering why staying local is important to me. Though it starts with wanting to support the businesses that make up our local community, there is more!  Local flower farms have a positive impact on our environment by applying organic practices, composting, and supporting the natural habitat of pollinators.  Plus, they grow some of the most unique varieties - a truly custom detail in your wedding floral landscape. Staying local with my floral designs is fruitful for our community and our planet.
